Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI)

Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) is an integrated system of smart water meters, communication networks, and data management systems that enables real-time, two-way communication between water utilities and customers. The system provides a number of important functions that previously  had to be performed manually, such as the ability to automatically and remotely measure water usage, connect and disconnect service, detect tampering, and identify and isolate service disruptions and leaks.

AMI provides myriad benefits to water systems and utilities. AMI allows for real-time and more accurate collection of water usage data, which in turn provides far more accurate water consumption readings and customer billing. More importantly, AMI also improves leak detection by allowing water systems and utilities to more quickly notice excessive water usage, which is often the harbinger of a hidden leak.
